Shipfitter - Marine and Industrial

Summary

You will serve as a SHIPFITTER LEADER (FLANGE TURNER) in the STRUCTURAL AND FABRICATION SHOP - 920 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Duties

Help

• You will review and assign work orders to specific crew members and select workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skill, and ability.
• You will resolve job related problems such as : clearing bottlenecks, ambiguous work specifications, work coordination, short range job status reporting and work progressing.
• You will ensures that required tools and materials to accomplish the job are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
• You will apply a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to cut, shape and straighten hot and cold plates and structural members used in ship construction
• You will operate oxy / acetylene gas heating torches, determine when heated metal plates or shapes are ready for forming by noting their color from heating, explain heating and bending characteristics of metal used in the overhaul and repair of ships.
