Essential Duties:
1. Provide high-level of customer service and support through setup and configuration of routers and associated equipment. Assist customer in establishing passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and other configurations on utility and customer provided equipment. Assist customers with connecting existing devices to the utility’s broadband service follow-up to ensure the customer is satisfied with the work performed. 2. Install data cabling on the exterior and interior of customer homes while providing great care in the aesthetics and integrity of the work.3. Perform fiber optic splicing both at homes and business in splice cases and in emergency repair situations. 4. Perform fiber optic testing utilizing power meters, visual fault finders and OTDR’s to help identify and troubleshoot fiber optic issues.5. Assist with performing On-Call/Emergency maintenance and services. 6. Provide utility locating when needed.7. Assists with maintaining the warehouse and inventory of customer premise equipment and distribution network elements and related supplies.8. Follows all safety rules and regulations and ensures a safe working environment.9. Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment ensuring equipment is not operated beyond its limits. Troubleshoot operating problems and determine a course of action for repairs. 10. Establish and maintain positive cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations, and the general public.Auxiliary Duties: Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical QualificationsKnowledge of: General knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools and equipment, practices, methods, hazards, and safety precautions used in the maintenance and repair of broadband infrastructure. General knowledge of Fiber Optic splicing, testing and low voltage installation techniques, AC and DC circuits, and general construction methods. Knowledge of TCP/IP networks and how to configure and troubleshoot network issues in a home or business environment. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Ability to: Prioritize and organize tasks within specific timelines, provide excellent customer service, interact with customers, and demonstrate a positive experience. Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, patience and tack in public contact and problem resolution. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and to make decisions with minimal supervision. Effectively operate personal computers and associated software.
Education and Experience: Typical education would include the equivalent to high school education or GED. Typical experience would include one year of related experience working as a Low Voltage Technician and/or Installer, preferable with a telecommunications services provider and/or a job performing fiber optic splicing services or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties.
Special Requirements/Licenses: Possession of valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within six months of employment. Confined space training completed within 90 days of hire.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, climb, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis such as files, tools, equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 75% of the work period while performing installation functions. Must be able to visually distinguish colors.
Working Conditions: The duties take place inside and outside of buildings with exposure to all types of weather conditions and on a year-round basis. May frequently work on ladders and in confined spaces. Direct interaction with customers will occur daily. May require working on rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
