About the Role
As an Inpatient Coding Auditor, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate DRG assignment, compliant documentation, and appropriate reimbursement. Working closely with physicians and internal stakeholders, you’ll combine your clinical coding expertise with advanced technology and analytics to support quality, compliance, and financial integrity across inpatient services.
Key Responsibilities
Review inpatient medical records pre-bill to validate diagnosis and procedure coding
Assign accurate DRGs using clinical judgment and coding expertise
Collaborate directly with physicians to clarify documentation and resolve coding questions
Utilize proprietary technology to identify trends, query opportunities, and data insights
Support denial prevention and resolution through compliant coding practices
Provide education and share best practices related to inpatient coding and compliance
Stay current on ICD-10-CM / PCS updates, DRG changes, and regulatory guidance
Contribute to continuous process improvement and assist with coding work as needed
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred
Experience
4+ years of inpatient facility coding experience
Experience in Level I or II trauma centers and / or teaching hospitals strongly preferred
Deep understanding of DRG reimbursement methodologies (MS-DRG, APR-DRG)
Certifications
RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CIC (AHIMA or AAPC) required
