Volunteer Board position

The Appointing Authority for Broward County’s Transportation Surtax is currently welcoming applications from qualified individuals looking to serve on the Independent Transportation Surtax Oversight Board (Oversight Board) as representatives in the category of Engineering / Construction Management. The primary objective of the Oversight Board is to ensure accountability and maintain transparency in how Transportation Surtax funds are allocated and spent. This includes an essential role in confirming the statutory eligibility of Transportation Surtax projects and supervising ongoing expenditures related to these projects.

The composition of the Oversight Board includes nine members, each appointed by an Appointing Authority. Among these members, there is a requirement to have at least one professional with expertise in either engineering or construction management. Such candidates are defined as individuals who currently hold, or who have held within the last three years, a professional license to engage in engineering practices, according to Section 471.005 of the Florida Statutes, or those who are licensed general contractors or building contractors as specified in Section 489.105 of the Florida Statutes.

According to ordinance stipulations, the Oversight Board is mandated to convene quarterly; however, additional meetings may be scheduled more frequently as deemed necessary to achieve their objectives. The typical commitment for a volunteer member of the Oversight Board is between 8 to 10 hours each quarter, which corresponds with scheduled meetings. Selected candidates will serve a four-year term beginning from their appointment date. In instances where an adequate number of applications are received, an eligible alternate may also be appointed to ensure operational continuity should the primary appointee be unable to fulfill the responsibilities.

Interested candidates must submit applications for the Oversight Board position comprising the following components :

• A comprehensive resume (noting any involvement in other advisory boards, if relevant)
• A notarized Certification of No Conflict of Interest
• A personal statement expressing interest in the position via email or cover letter, providing :
• The candidate’s home address
• A rationale for their interest in serving
