ArentFox Schiff LLP is seeking a chemistry-focused patent agent or technical specialist with a minimum of two years of institutional or law firm experience to join our highly regarded team. Ideally, this position would be based in our Washington, D.C., or Boston office; we are also open to candidates based in our San Francisco office. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in drafting patent applications-particularly in the area of small-molecule therapeutics-and possess a solid understanding of the statutory criteria for patentability and USPTO rules of practice and procedure.

A Ph.D. in organic chemistry is preferred; candidates should exhibit strong intellectual curiosity and present excellent academic credentials. Exceptional organizational and writing skills are required, as is a desire to excel in a large law firm environment. This is a client-facing role that involves direct interaction with inventors and scientists; accordingly, outstanding oral communication skills are essential. The position offers meaningful responsibility and independence, coupled with appropriate training and oversight.

For the patent agent role, active registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar) is required. Familiarity with patent databases and search tools, experience managing patent portfolios, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams are essential.

The good faith base salary range for this position is a minimum of $100,000 to a maximum of $215,000 per year. The actual salary rate offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, applicable bar admissions, and the candidate's overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the Firm.
