The Chief Neighbor Experience Officer (CXO) serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for ensuring that every interaction between the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore (FSEVA) and its community—from food distribution and partner collaboration to healthcare partnerships—reflects dignity, empowerment, stewardship, and is neighbor-centered.

The CXO leads with design and execution of strategies that place neighbors (those experiencing food insecurity) at the center of all organizational decisions. Through visionary leadership. The CXO ensures that the Foodbank’s programs, partnerships, and engagement efforts deliver transformative, equitable, and measurable impact across Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

The CXO leads with organization’s strategy and execution around creating a compassionate, comprehensive, and person-centered “Neighbor Experience,” that honors the voices of those facing food insecurity and strengthen the relationships between the Foodbank, its partners, and the community.

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to the development and execution of FSEVA’s strategic plan and culture of neighbor-centered service.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the Neighbor Experience Strategic Framework, ensuring that all programs and partnerships reflect the organization’s commitment to dignity, inclusion, and empowerment.
  • Embed “neighbor voice” and lived experience into program design, evaluation, and policy advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, and Chief Development Officer to align service delivery, partner engagement, and resource development with neighbor-centered principles.

Neighbor-Centered Programs & Services

  • Oversee the Program Services team to ensure high-quality, compassionate, and effective service delivery through food hubs, mobile distributions, and innovative access models.
  • Develop systems to regularly collect and integrate neighbor feedback to drive continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Advance initiatives that remove barriers to food access, including transportation, language, and cultural obstacles, and strengthen linkages to other community resources and services.
  • Champion connections and services that assist and empower neighbors to address the root causes of hunger.
  • Partner & Community Engagement

  • Lead the Partner Agency Relations team to cultivate strong, collaborative, and accountable relationships with our partner agencies.
  • Ensure that our network of partner agencies have the adequate resources and capabilities to meet the food security needs of our neighbors.
  • Oversee joint accountability and shared outcome models that align multiple departments (e.g., Partner Agency Marketplace) to shared goals and performance measures.
  • Strengthen FSEVA’s role as a community convener, fostering collaboration among nonprofits, schools, health providers, and civic leaders to address root causes of hunger.
  • Represent FSEVA in regional coalitions, community forums, and Feeding America network initiatives to advance systems-level changes.
  • Neighbor, Staff and Partner-Centered Culture

  • Champion FSEVA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across all internal and external activities.
  • Work closely with leadership to foster a culture of dignity, respect, and belonging for staff, partners, and neighbors.
  • Support storytelling efforts that elevate authentic neighbor voices and reflect the strength, resilience, and diversity of the communities we serve.
  • Elevate the work of our partner agencies and community partners to contribute to the achievement of their organizational goals.
  • Leadership & Performance

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team focused on collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate neighbor satisfaction, partner engagement, and service outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with Feeding America standards, grant requirements, and programmatic regulations.
  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of years of progressive leadership experience in community-based services, human services, or nonprofit management.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and implementing organization-wide initiatives with measurable impact.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in executing programs / services in a rapidly changing and evolving environment.
  • Experience within the Feeding America network or large-scale community service organizations strongly preferred.
