Stantec's thriving Healthcare practice is adding an Architect to their San Francisco, CA team. It is an exciting opportunity where your role will be to collaborate with the Project Manager and any Design Leader to guide a team of design coordinators through all phases of Design and Construction. You will support all aspects of the project process from validation / pre‑design through construction administration and close‑out within but not limited to Non Acute, Acute Healthcare projects. Coordination with consultants, contractors, and Owners will be a part of your weekly activities to manage projects. Along with your Project Manager, you may support more than one project at a time depending on the size of the project and within various phases of design and construction.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for projects of large and medium complexity / size.
  • Inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
  • Conceptualises a building design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget and program.
  • Develop a design through in collaboration with a team via mediums such as sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups.
  • Utilises BIM technologies in development of three‑dimensional models of buildings and their components.
  • Participates in design critiques and constructability reviews.
  • Present the design with the Project Manager and collaborating Design Architect to stakeholders during early project phases. Develops building design in accordance with cost parameters.
  • Evaluates and selects building systems and materials.
  • Coordinates building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Implements sustainable design principles into the design and environment.
  • Analyzes site incorporating geotechnical, hydrological, environmental, social, economic and contextual conditions.
  • Participates in development of the programme and other pre‑design efforts.
  • Ensures that design intent is maintained through documentation and construction.
  • Responsible for leading others in project team setting and design critiques and pin‑ups.

  • Leads one or more teams on medium size projects through the development of design concept.
  • Checks work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages team to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Interprets sketches, drawings, codes, building programme and other similar material.
  • Applies accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life‑safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.
  • Produces and delivers design and documentation in highly collaborative BIM strategy.
  • Has strong knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry associated standards.
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Prepares and ensures that work conforms to project budget, schedule, and overall work planning.
  • Has understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, Bluebeam, recent modelling software; prefer experience with 3D printer, laser cutter.
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • Licensed Architect in California is ideal.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, preferably on large teams with healthcare or institutional clients.
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
  • Healthcare (OSHPD / HCAI) experience is desired.
  • Typical Office Environment

    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

    Pay Range

  • Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP) - Min Salary $134,900.00 - Max Salary $202,500.00
  • Pay Transparency

    In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

    Benefits Summary

    Regular full‑time and part‑time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short‑term / long‑term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full‑time and part‑time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

    Temporary / casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.

    The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
