Position Description
TITLE : Bilingual Paraprofessional CLASSIFICATION : Certified
FLSA : Exempt (Executive) DEPARTMENT : Various Schools
SALARY : $39,000-$52,000 WORK YEAR : 180 days
REPORTS TO : Principal or Designee

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a certified classroom teacher, the Bilingual Teacher Aide supports instruction by assisting in delivering academic content, behavioral support, and classroom management primarily to English Learners (ELs)in both English and the students' native language. This role is vital in helping students achieve learning goals while promoting language development and cultural inclusion.
Qualifications Profile
- Required : Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Paraprofessional Educator License.
- Preferred : Bilingual Endorsement or documentation of language proficiency in English and a second language.
- Education : Minimum of 60 college credit hours or successful completion of an ISBE-approved paraprofessional assessment.
- Prior experience working with elementary or bilingual students is highly desirable.
Essential Job Functions
Assist and guide bilingual students to reinforce skills in reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other content areas using both English and the student's native language.Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce classroom learning and language acquisition goals.Translate classroom content and directions as needed to facilitate understanding and student engagement.Assist in the preparation, adaptation, and delivery of instructional materials to meet the needs of English Learners.Support classroom teachers in assessing student understanding through observation, documentation, and informal assessments.Help manage classroom behavior, reinforce positive behavior strategies, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for all learners.Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide data to the supervising teacher.Provide translation or interpretation for parent communication as needed.Supervise students during non-instructional times including lunch, recess, hallway transitions, bus duty, and field trips.Prepare, copy, and distribute bilingual educational materials as needed.Additional Duties
