- Position Description
- In collaboration with the attending physician, the PA / NP :
- Prepares and records patient history
- Develops and implements a plan of care
- Participates in daily rounds on assigned patients and documents pertinent symptoms, findings, diagnoses, and care plans
- Utilizes electronic medical records (EPIC) for order entry and documentation
- Participates in multidisciplinary rounding, responds to coding and documentation queries, and engages in quality and safety initiatives
- Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
- Orders or performs diagnostic studies, including EMG, electrocardiogram, compartment pressure measurements, X-rays, CT, MRI, and bone scans
- Performs procedures such as digital blocks, regional anesthesia, and minor outpatient surgical procedures (tendon repair, wound closure, wound management, debridement, incision & drainage, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning, K-wire and hardware removal)
- Conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures / dislocations, injections of joints / tendons / trigger points / bursa, and brace, cast, and splint applications
- Assists in surgery as first assist, performs deep and superficial tissue closures, applies appliances, and completes other delegated actions by the surgeon
- Conducts hospital rounds, writes orders, and assists the orthopedic surgeon
- Serves as primary orthopedic call for Bay Area Hospital’s patients in the ED and inpatient units, including weekday, weekend, holiday, and 24-hour coverage
- Evaluates clinical conditions, formulates treatment plans, and dictates discharge summaries, histories, and physicals
- Skills and Abilities :
- Proficiency with electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management while providing patient care
- Ability to work independently and perform effectively in stressful and / or emergent situations
- Excellent clinical judgment, problem-solving, and critical thinking
