Research Administrator II

The Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cell Therapy is looking for a detail-oriented Research Administrator II to join their team. The Research Administrator II serves as a key figure in the research mission of the institution. Duties include independently supporting investigators through the entire proposal submission process; administration of a large, high dollar and varied portfolio of sponsored awards that may include federal and non-federal grants, contracts, subawards, and multiple faculty and locations. Management of competing priorities while providing excellence in customer service to internal and external customers; ensuring activity records are accurate, appropriately organized and recorded in a timely manner; independently negotiating sponsored agreements and contracts; serving as a training resource for faculty and staff at all levels; identification and dissemination of potential funding sources for faculty constituency; development of documentation of protocols, templates, and additional resources; read; interpret; disseminate and or apply federal and other sponsor guidelines and regulatory documents.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews proposals to external funding sources, from submission to award; ensures adherence to sponsor and institutional requirements; develops and reviews budgets; verifies that all requirements regarding governmental certifications are addressed
  • Serves as a key member in the research mission to manage a larger caseload assignment and projects of varying type and complexity from a variety of sponsors with minor assistance, while managing competing priorities
  • Independently negotiates standard and more complex terms and conditions associated with basic non-industrial sponsored research agreements and sub awards consistent with institutional policy and practice that are programmatically and fiscally responsive
  • Serves as a mentor and or training resource for faculty, departmental administrators and office staff
  • Works collaboratively with individuals involved in the research enterprise, including sponsors, institution and departments to facilitates problem resolution
  • Assists with internal and external audits pertaining to the activities in grants and contracts
  • Engages in professional development activities in order to stay current with regulatory requirements and best practices in research administration
  • Identifies and disseminates potential funding sources to principal investigators
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution

Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of research administration
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions, diverse job tasks, competing priorities and performing necessary duties to support fellow team members in conjunction with accomplishing the mission of the organization
  • Ability to function under extreme fluctuating levels of time constraints and stress
  • Ability to work as part of a cooperative, mission-focused team in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment
  • Ability to read and understand complex guidance documents which will include departmental, institutional, agency and federal policies and guidelines and develop a course of action
  • Ability to effectively prioritize competing requests from internal and external customers
  • Organizational and time management skills to meet frequent deadlines
  • Ability to prepare and monitor budgets. Knowledge needed for calculations, as well as verbal ability to explain budgets to individuals who are not knowledgeable in accounting
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a business or a related field. Master's degree preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of grant and contract, IRB, IACUC, research administration or related experience is required
