Embedded Mechatronics Engineer

Job Summary :

Zymo Research is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Engineering Team! The Embedded Mechatronics Engineer will design, implement, and optimize embedded motor-control systems for complex mechatronic platforms. This role focuses on real-time motion control, firmware development, electronics integration, and close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to deliver reliable, high-performance motion solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Design, implement, and tune motion-control algorithms (including PID) for multi-motor systems (stepper, BLDC, servo).
• Develop embedded firmware in C / C++ and Python for real-time control on MCU / RTOS platforms.
• Select and integrate microcontrollers and peripherals (timers, PWMs, UART / I2C / SPI, memory) based on system requirements.
• Implement and debug communication interfaces (UART, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB) between controllers and modules.
• Collaborate on PCB-level design, grounding, power distribution, and EMI / EMC mitigation for high-current motor systems.
• Integrate and condition signals from sensors (encoders, limit switches, optical sensors) with appropriate filtering.
• Implement safety features : fault detection, watchdogs, overcurrent protection, and interlocks.
• Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit debuggers for bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Create and maintain technical documentation : architecture diagrams, firmware specs, test plans, and V&V protocols.

Compensation, Benefits, and Perks :

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $77,000- $100,000 annually at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
