Location : This position allows you to telework 3 day a week! Our office is located in the Taylorsville State Office Building - 4315 S. 2700 West, Taylorsville, UT. Please note that the Division of Risk Management may consider full-time telework to employees whose primary residence is in the State of Utah and is located at least 50 miles from our Taylorsville State Office Building.

Job Description

The Division of Risk Management is seeking a new Loss Control Manager! If you have experience in liability, property, or casualty loss prevention, apply now!

For the purposes of this application and position, loss prevention is defined as providing consultations, inspections, and training for, and with, insureds to help them identify and avoid property insured liability, property and casualty insurance claims.

Principal Duties

As the Loss Control Manager, you will :

  • Supervise and manage a staff of diverse professionals with expertise in a variety of areas, such as workplace security, workers' compensation, fire, life safety, ergonomics, defensive driving, human resources, student issues, physical safety (OSHA), and engineering
  • Direct and coordinate the loss control inspections, consultations, and training provided by the loss control staff for covered agencies, public schools, charter schools, and higher education institutions to assist them in identifying policies, practices, procedures, and environmental hazards that may result in property, casualty, liability, and workers' compensation claims
  • Consult with insured entities with respect to all covered risks and provide training to insured entities with respect to claims or loss control programs developed to increase awareness of loss causes in order to minimize personal harm to employees and the public and reputational harm to covered entities and the State Risk Fund
  • Provide, direct, and coordinate consultation and training to covered agencies, school districts, charter schools, and institutions of higher education to assist them in preventing non-physical liability, i.e., civil rights and other rights protected by state and federal laws and regulations

Best Qualified Candidate

The best qualified applicants for this position will have :

  • Loss prevention experience in liability, property, or casualty.
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising and managing subordinate personnel.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in property and casualty claims handling / management and will understand how to read an insurance policy to determine coverage for a given loss.
  • Note : Additional preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following certifications : Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).

    The Agency / Division provides property, liability, and auto coverage, claims administration, and loss control services to the participating entities of the Risk Management Fund. Among them are all state agencies, all public school districts, all public institutions of higher education, and many of the public charter schools.

  • The employee is typically subject to risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
