Job Description
The Liability Claims Supervisor provides complete, professional liability-claims adjusting services on claims, accidents or incidents that may result in the submission of a claim. The Liability Claims Supervisor also conducts accident investigations, identifies liability trends, and participates in the development of the liability self‑insurance program budget. Additionally, the Liability Claims Supervisor directs the Claims Specialist and represents MTS in court on litigated claims.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations, ability to read, understand and apply MTS policies, regulations and union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; skill in effectively supervising subordinates in order to achieve company goals; skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to learn and use other software that MTS might have or acquire; ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment within claims management guidelines, as specified in local, state and federal government codes and regulations; ability to make sound decisions consistent with MTS values, behaviors, policies and procedures; ability to conduct liability field-site investigations and prepare relevant information for use in claims adjusting, mediation and litigation; extensive technical knowledge of liability-claims adjustment principles and investigation and settlement techniques; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, customers and the general public; ability to represent MTS in a positive way while working with the public; sound working knowledge of the California Civil Justice System, Government Code as it relates to claims against public entities, medical terminology, casualty insurance and personal injury evaluations.
Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)
Possess an associate's or bachelor's degree from an accredited university in risk management or related field, with at least five years of recent and extensive public agency liability claims administration experience with accident investigation or loss control. Requisite knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted for the degree requirement. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
GENERAL:
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
SALARY GRADE: #8 ($56,557 - $115,023)
HIRING RANGE: $80,000 - $100,000
