Developers work in pairs on a variety of projects, rotating pair partners and / or projects on a weekly basis. At Menlo, it's not as important to be an expert in any particular language as to be willing and able to learn new languages when needed. You Can Expect
To spend all your time working in a paired context with other team members or clientsTo spend the majority of your time coding and executing related development tasks, including TDDTo rotate across a diverse portfolio of projects in a variety of domains and technologiesTo work collaboratively and cross-functionally with Project Managers, UX / UI Designers, and Quality AdvocatesTo play a leading role in :Guiding the direction of technical discussions
Building and managing client relationshipsDrawing out the ideas and experience of others to maximize project success and team effectivenessIdentifying opportunities for growth in others and developing their technical and soft skillsTranslating ambiguous or conflicting business objectives into a concrete project planFrequently consulting with existing and prospective clients, including participation in sales conversations and weekly client meetingsQualifications
5+ years of professional software development experience outside the classroomDemonstrated ability to lead complex software projects at all stages of executionDeep experience in system design, technical architecture, and troubleshootingExcellent communication skillsespecially in client-facing scenariosFamiliarity with and interest in agile development, XP, and pair programmingExperience navigating challenging dynamics between internal teams and external stakeholdersComfort juggling multiple moving pieces while keeping an eye on project health, emotional tone, and long-term goalsAbility to connect the dots across the product, tech, and people dimensions of a projectCommitment to work full time, in-person in Ann Arbor, MI (This is not a hybrid or remote work assignment)Our interview process requires candidates to fulfill a 1-day and 3-week trial period on-site in Ann Arbor, MINice To Have
