Salary and Benefits :
The annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents ranges according to grade levels :
GL-5 / GL-7 : $49,739 - $89,518 per year.
Duty locations may affect pay rates; federal law enforcement positions often receive higher locality pay in certain areas. Fully trained Border Patrol Agents may qualify for an additional 25% of base pay as per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a career ladder with opportunities for promotion up to GS-12 after demonstrating competencies for 52 weeks at each grade level.
Border Patrol Agents benefit from a robust package of federal employment benefits, including comprehensive health and dental insurance, generous annual and sick leave, and enrollment in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan akin to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive : Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents have the potential to earn up to a $20,000 hiring incentive. The first $10,000 is available upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, while the remaining $10,000 is provided for accepting a priority position.
Retention Incentive : Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents could qualify for an additional $40,000 in incentives during their first four years of service.

Training Requirements : Post-hiring, you will be enrolled in the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months of intensive law enforcement training.
