General Description
Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all mechanical manufacturing operations in a small, agile, fast-paced defense production environment. This role oversees CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, chemical conversion, paint finishing and mechanical assembly activities supporting build-to-print programs for a wide range of government and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers. Ensure products are built safely, on time, within budget and in compliance with AS9100 quality standards while driving continuous improvement.
Duties
- Oversee daily operations across CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, finishing and mechanical assembly work centers; provide hands-on guidance to machinists, welders, fabricators and assemblers.
- Plan, prioritize and schedule manufacturing orders to meet customer deadlines and program milestones.
- Optimize labor and machine utilization while maintaining efficient workflow.
- Ensure adherence to industry standard safety, environmental and facility requirements.
- Maintain compliance with AS9100 standards and customer-specific technical and quality requirements.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to resolve non-conformances, implement corrective actions and reduce / minimize rework.
- Support internal / external audits and customer / government inspections and site visits.
- Ensure proper use of approved travelers, work instructions and controlled documentation.
- Lead and oversee the mechanical estimating process for new RFQs including labor hour estimate development, process sequencing and manufacturing planning.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering, Production Control and Supply Chain to validate manufacturability, material costs, special processes and lead times.
- Provide input for pricing strategies and support Business Development and Program Management during proposal preparation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, MIL-STDs and special process requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvement including Lean, 6S and waste reduction initiatives.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet fluctuating workload requirements.
- Lead, train and mentor production staff; conduct performance evaluations while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Lead / manage mechanical production operations capital planning, department budgets and expenditures.
- Work with Facilities team to ensure proper operation, care and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

Education / Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical or aerospace manufacturing.Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a production manufacturing environment.Experience estimating manufacturing work – labor, materials and processes.Demonstrated leadership and management skills to direct and motivate teams.Proven background in CNC machining and at least one other manufacturing discipline.Experience in low-volume, high-mix, fast-paced, dynamic defense environments.Solid understanding of AS9100 quality requirements and ERP / MRP systems.Strong leadership and communication skills with an ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.Cross-functional collaboration with keen attention to detail and quality mindset.Proficient in Microsoft Office software.We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform post-offer, pre-employment substance abuse testing.Physical Requirements
