Position Summary
The Litigation Paralegal plays a critical role in the efficient and effective prosecution of tax cases. This position is responsible for independently managing a docket of approximately 1,000 pending tax cases across three District Courts, working directly under the supervision of a litigation attorney. This role significantly contributes to the company's goals by ensuring the timely and successful resolution of tax cases, which is essential for the collection of delinquent taxes and fees.
Essential Functions
The core responsibilities of the Litigation Paralegal include, but are not limited to, the following day-to-day activities :
Case Management : Manage the prosecution of approximately 1,000 tax cases pending in three specific district courts, as assigned by the litigation attorney.
Service Monitoring : Monitor the service status of each defendant and ensure proper service is secured on all defendants to obtain valid and enforceable final judgments.
Pleading Preparation : Prepare all necessary pleadings to obtain valid and enforceable final judgments in legal proceedings.
Stakeholder Communication : Correspond, discuss with, or meet with taxpayers and defendants as needed to prosecute cases and facilitate the collection of delinquent taxes and fees.
Trial Scheduling : Obtain trial settings in accordance with established court procedures.
Judgment Drafting : Draft final judgments for submission to the court.
Court Liaison : Maintain close communication with court clerks to facilitate case settings and resolutions.
Trial Attendance : Attend virtual and in-person trial hearings in each matter as requested by the litigation attorney.
Ad Hoc Duties : Perform other duties as assigned by the litigation attorney.

This position involves a degree of independent discretion and contributes to team success through the following :
Training Support : Assist with the training of new litigation employees across the department to ensure adherence to established practices and procedures.
Team Collaboration : Maintain close communication with all paralegals on the team and within the litigation department to foster cooperation and achieve monthly departmental goals.
Special Requirements
Education : High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A college degree is a plus.
Work Schedule : Employees are expected to work 40-hour weeks.
