Job Title
UB/UBMS Teacher Tutor (Temporary)

Position Summary

Provides individual and group tutorial assistance in English, Math, Science and/or other subject to assigned Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science project participants during the Academic Year at Carter Riverside High School, Dunbar High School, Diamond Hill Jarvis HS, North Side HS, Trimble Tech HS or Polytechnic HS. The UB/UBMS Teacher Tutor will also be responsible for documenting all contacts on UB/UBMS Contact Logs that are submitted weekly to the UB or UBMS Project Coordinators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides individual/group tutoring sessions in English, math and science or any other subject weekly to project participants.
  • Completes and submits completed contact logs by the end of each week to project Coordinators.
  • Monitors and reports any academic needs and/or problems of assigned students that may interfere with the learning process to the Project Coordinator on a weekly basis.
  • Teaches study skills and test preparation skills to assigned participants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Director.


Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.

Teaching experience and certificate in the area of competence preferred.

Experience

Experience working in a TRIO or other similar college-bound program preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to work independently in the most efficient manner with minimum supervision.

Ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents of the University.

Ability to use discretion in handling confidential matters.

Ability to maintain a professional appearance and office atmosphere.

Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

Ability to display sensitivity to the educational and psychological issues affecting low-income, potential first-generation college-bound youth and indicate either professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population from which TRIO participants are selected.

Ability to work cooperatively and productively in a highly active setting.

Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures.

Ability to demonstrate and provide quality customer service.
