Microsoft 365 Engineer (Migrations & Cloud Operations)
(Mid-Level Role)
Job Summary
We are seeking a Microsoft 365 Engineer to support and execute Microsoft 365 migration and modernization efforts. This role focuses on hands-on execution, troubleshooting, and documentation across a variety of migration scenarios, including on-premises to Microsoft 365, tenant-to-tenant, and hybrid environments.
The engineer will work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and customers to ensure smooth transitions to Microsoft 365 while maintaining security, data integrity, and user experience. This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer with strong fundamentals in Microsoft 365 who is looking to grow deeper expertise in migrations, security, and cloud operations.
Key Responsibilities
Migration Execution & Support
- Execute and support Microsoft 365 migrations, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams.
- Assist with discovery, planning inputs, user mappings, validation, and cutover activities for migration projects.
- Support migrations from on-premises environments, hybrid environments, or between Microsoft 365 tenants.
- Troubleshoot migration issues related to identity, access, permissions, and data integrity.
- Provide post-migration support, validation, and remediation as needed.
Tooling, Scripting & Troubleshooting
- Run, modify, and maintain PowerShell scripts used for migrations, reporting, and administrative tasks.
- Support the use of migration tools and assist with tracking errors, exceptions, and remediation steps.
- Identify recurring issues and contribute to improving migration processes and documentation.
Documentation & Communication
- Create and maintain migration-related documentation, including discovery notes, user mappings, error logs, and runbooks.
- Develop end-user documentation and support materials as required.
- Communicate task status, risks, and blockers clearly to project teams.
- Track assigned tasks and provide regular updates to project leadership.
Experience Level
- 3–6 years of relevant experience in Microsoft 365, IT operations, or cloud engineering roles
- Strong execution skills are prioritized over senior-level architecture or design experience

Required Skills
- Microsoft 365 Core Workloads
- Hands-on experience with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams
- Strong understanding of how users, content, and permissions are structured and migrated
- Identity Fundamentals
- Working knowledge of Active Directory and Entra
- Understanding of users, groups, authentication, and how identity impacts migrations
- PowerShell (Working Knowledge)
- Ability to run, modify, and understand PowerShell scripts
- Comfortable using scripts for migrations, reporting, and administrative tasks
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Strong analytical skills with a methodical approach to issue resolution
- Ability to identify root causes and work through remediation with guidance as needed
- Microsoft Office Proficiency
- Strong Excel skills (e.g., XLOOKUP)
- Proficient with Microsoft Word for documentation
- Communication & Task Management
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and communicate status effectively

- Exposure to on-premises Active Directory or Exchange

- Any experience with device enrollment, policies, or application deployment
- Security & Compliance
- Familiarity with Microsoft Information Protection, DLP, sensitivity labels, or conditional access
- Migration Tools
- Experience with third-party migration tools (Fly or similar tools are a plus)
- Azure & Infrastructure Exposure
- Basic familiarity with Azure, virtual machines, or enterprise applications
- Change Management & User Enablement
- Experience supporting end users through migration or platform change
