The Texas General Land Office is seeking an Appraiser I-IV within the Appraisal Services Department of the agency. The Appraiser I-IV performs appraisal work involving conducting property value ratio studies, gathering property sales information, and conducting property appraisals.

Appraiser I

Appraiser I : Performs routine (journey-level) appraisal work. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

What Your Contributions to the GLO Will Be :

• Appraiser I (Appraiser Trainee) : Conduct property appraisals and inspection reports, including VLB, VHIP, forfeiture, and appeals, within required timelines. Perform commercial and complex appraisals in compliance with USPAP Standards. Perform technical and field reviews of appraisal assignments for Asset Management and VLB programs. Maintain Appraiser Trainee status and pursue State Certification through approved coursework. Adhere to agency policies for travel, timekeeping, and expense reporting. Serve as backup during staff shortages and support related program areas.
• Appraiser II (Appraiser Trainee) : Conduct property appraisals and inspection reports, including VLB, VHIP, forfeiture, and appeals, within required timelines. Maintain Appraiser Trainee status and pursue State Certification through approved coursework. Adhere to agency policies for travel, timekeeping, and expense reporting. Serve as backup during staff shortages and support related program areas.
• Appraiser IV (Staff Appraiser) : Conduct property appraisals and inspection reports, including VLB, VHIP, forfeiture, and appeals, within required timelines. Perform commercial and complex appraisals in compliance with USPAP Standards. Maintain State Certification and increase professional skills through advanced appraisal training. Adhere to agency policies for travel, timekeeping, and expense reporting. Serve as backup during staff shortages and support related program areas.

Qualifications : Minimum Qualifications : A Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a degree in finance, real estate, or agricultural economics, or closely related field. Salary and classification are dependent on qualifications :

Physical Requirements : This position requires the employee to primarily perform non-sedentary work; mobility (moving around the work-site) is routinely required to carry out some duties including extensive moving upon and traveling across uneven surfaces, rough terrain and / or desolate areas, normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies; marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements; constant use of personal computers, copiers, printers, and telephones; the ability to move about the office to access file cabinets and office machinery; requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; ability to move and transport records, documents, boxes and all related information, materials and tools, weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent sitting and / or remaining in a stationary position; and ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed.

Preferred Qualifications : TALCB Certified General Appraiser, Candidate with the Appraisal Institute or American Society of Farm Management and Rural Appraisers, Experience with vacant land and farm ranch valuation.
