Job Summary
Responsible for executing the entire investment process, including developing the overall investment hypothesis and underwriting, preparing financial modeling and analysis, conducting due diligence of potential early‑stage VSV investments, and completing industry research and competitive intelligence. The Senior Associate or Vice President will provide analytical and strategic support to VSV's portfolio companies, including serving as board member or observer. The Senior Associate or Vice President shall oversee and act as a mentor for junior members of the investment team and coordinate with members of the Valor Scale Group through the lifecycle of investments. It is expected that the Senior Associate or Vice President shall develop the skills, firm knowledge, and relationships to be considered for promotion to the next role at Valor.
Responsibilities
Execute on underwriting requirements for proposed investments
Perform and coordinate due diligence for investments
Assist in the firm's investment opportunity gathering and assessment process
Review and quality control models and other firm materials
For each investment on which you are supporting a senior member of the firm :
Organize all aspects of the firm's analysis of the investment
Play lead role in all financial modeling and business and industry analysis
Participate in management meetings
Play lead role in industry intelligence gathering efforts, public company research, and other sector‑related research efforts
Play lead role in due diligence investigations including, without limitation, financial and accounting diligence, legal diligence, technology diligence, benefits & insurance diligence, and sector‑specific diligence
Coordinate due diligence investigations conducted by third‑party advisors
Participate in negotiations with respect to any such investment
Communicate regularly with and solicit input from members of the investment committee throughout the process of investigation and analysis
Prepare all materials for investment committee review, including preparation of the investment committee opportunity summary and supporting material
Maintain relationships with specified executives at VSV early‑stage investments and other entrepreneurs, including as a board member or observer
Assist senior management of portfolio companies post‑investment
Support add‑on acquisitions and follow‑on equity raises or debt financings post‑closing of YSV's initial investment
Mentor and develop analysts and associates
Qualifications
Participate in analyst and associate hiring and recruiting activities. Participate in firm training and development for associates and analysts.
Demonstrated passion for and experience in YSV's focus areas, including sustainability, food, food tech, retail, and retail tech
A bachelor's degree with a demonstrated track record of superior academic performance
At least four years of relevant experience
Prior technical (e.g., engineering), investing (e.g., private equity, investment banking), or operational experience preferred
Unmatched attention to detail
Proven project management skills with ability to multi‑task
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Exceptional quantitative, technical, and analytical / problem‑solving skills demonstrated through prior experience
Demonstrated expert knowledge of financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and industry and competitive analysis
Initiative, tremendous work ethic, and a high level of maturity and professional demeanor
Willingness to be resourceful, flexible, and adaptable; no task is too big or too small
Strong leadership skills to help develop junior staff

Provide support in the preparation of valuations, client service materials, and other firm management functions
