McDowell Housing Partners is looking for a Development Associate to join our growing team. The Development Associate plays a pivotal role in the organization’s mission to provide high-quality affordable housing for families and seniors. This position is an integral member of the Development Team and will work on all aspects of the development process at the direction of the Director of Development and in concert with the Design, Construction, Finance, and Acquisitions teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of two years of experience in real estate development and / or project management in planning, civil engineering, architecture, construction, land development, or a related field
- Strong interest in real estate development and affordable housing, curiosity to learn, and a strong work ethic
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong organizational abilities
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Creative and resourceful problem-solving skills
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to build and maintain relationships with local governments, vendors, industry professionals, and internal teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with the ability to quickly learn new software and technologies
- Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience in civil engineering, entitlements and permitting, construction, urban planning, or architecture will be considered
General Responsibilities
Assist senior development staff throughout the project development process, including site selection, feasibility analysis, financing applications, due diligence, vendor procurement, entitlements and permits, construction coordination, and closingsIdentify and research potential development sites under the direction of senior development and acquisitions staffResearch zoning regulations, land development codes, entitlement processes, building permits, and public approvalsPerform pre-development project analysis including rent and income trends, construction costs, operating expenses, occupancy rates, and utility informationAssist with project budgeting and critical path timeline developmentSolicit and evaluate proposals for professional services such as surveys, geotechnical reports, market studies, appraisals, environmental reports, and specialty engineering servicesCoordinate due diligence activities and manage closing checklists with financial partnersMaintain project reporting systems, tracking software, and internal databasesPerform additional duties as assigned by MHP managementCompany Overview
