Position Summary

Actively drive and manage the design, drawing, and technology evaluation stage of the life‑safety system process while working with Sales and Operations teams as the key technical advisor. The System Designer must articulate technology, design, and product positioning.

Duties & Responsibilities

Establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the design, estimating, and sales cycle with Sales and Operations.

Design Everon Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems in accordance with local, county, state, and national codes and standards while following sales and operations protocols.

Receive project specifications, RFPs, bid documents, and plans from sales representatives to design and layout the appropriate code‑compliant system and product mix; provide scope of work, product selection, installation means, best practices, and the most cost‑effective solution.

Represent NFLST (National Fire & Life Safety Team) as a fire‑design technical resource.

Participate in national account, sales, and operations meetings to evaluate accuracy of the sales estimate and job layout.

Support national account and field sales organization in designing and laying out commercial fire alarm and life‑safety systems.

Design small, medium, and large building fire alarm, voice evacuation, networked fire alarm, high‑rise, smoke control, mass notification, emergency radio responder coverage systems, and VESDA air‑sampling smoke and gas detection.

Organize system layout, prepare necessary documents for permits, including drawings.

Select proper types, sizes, and quantities of products to meet project requirements.

Prepare all information on pre‑installation extras or change orders for customers or general / subcontractors.

Prepare as‑built documentation.

Prepare engineering re‑design and estimate while working with sales and operations management to assure understanding of job scope.

Manage heavy workload that often changes in scope and discipline.

Adapt to changing work environment, delays, or unexpected events; manage competing demands; adjust approach and methods to best fit the situation.

Travel up to 10% of time for training or project‑related items.

Experience

5–10 years of engineering experience in fire alarm and life‑safety systems or related fields.

Strong knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations.

Proficiency in fire alarm system programming, job start‑up, checkout, and troubleshooting.

Ability to manage varied heavy workload and set priorities.

Adaptability to changes in the work environment, delays, or unexpected events; manage competing demands.

Knowledge / Skills / Certifications

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, word processing, spreadsheet, project management, and AutoCAD.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Full proficiency and independent design skills.

Ability to design medium to large jobs with deviation from standard tools, products, or practices as needed.

Ability to read schematic and / or construction plans.

Strong organizational and self‑motivated skills with a professional attitude.

Constant use of discretion and problem analysis.

Frequent use of judgment and independent action.

Understanding of construction project process and documentation of changes or deviations.

Knowledge of network communications technology.

Ability to work remotely effectively and efficiently.

Education

Associate’s degree in electronics or other technical field, or equivalent experience.

NICET III or IV Fire Alarm Certification preferred; NICET II required. (CFPS, PE, FPE a plus)

Previous commercial life‑safety system design experience.
