Backend Engineer Real-Time Trading & Data Platform

Compensation : $180K-$200K USD base + equity

Location : New York City (in-person, 5 days / week) relocation supported within the U.S. (up to $10K)

About the Role

Were looking for a Backend Engineer to design and maintain the distributed systems, APIs, and services that power our trading platform. You'll work with high-concurrency systems and gigabyte-scale data flows, collaborating closely with smart contract and quant teams to build the next generation of decentralized trading infrastructure.

This is a highly collaborative, technically demanding role suited to an engineer who thrives in a fast-moving, zero-to-one start-up environment and wants to influence system architecture and product direction.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement reliable, performant backend services and APIs using Java or Python .

Develop and maintain distributed systems capable of handling gigabyte-scale data and thousands of concurrent users.

Collaborate with quant and smart contract teams to integrate backend systems with trading infrastructure.

Apply best practices in security, reliability, and high-performance system design.

Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical roadmap planning.

Contribute to scaling infrastructure and optimizing application performance as the platform grows.

Required Qualifications

4+ years of experience in backend engineering (mid-level; roughly equivalent to L4L5 at large tech companies).

Deep expertise in Java or Python (language flexibility).

Strong experience building APIs, microservices, and distributed systems at scale.

Proficiency with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

2+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes .

Strong background in system design, architecture, and infrastructure .

Experience architecting backend systems for start-ups or zero-to-one products.

Comfort working in fast-paced, product-driven environments focused on reliability and scalability.

Bonus Skills

Start-up or early-stage product experience.

Background in payments, fintech, or crypto / Web3 systems.

Familiarity with Rust or other modern backend languages.

Compensation & Logistics

Base Salary : $180K$200K USD

Equity : 1030 basis points (0.100.30%)

Location : New York City (in-person, 5 days / week)

Relocation : Up to $10K (must relocate within 1 month if outside NYC).
