License : Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiology (ARRT-R)
Certifications : BLS certified through AHA
Must-Have : Basic computer skills; Strong customer service and communication skills
Description :
Operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic routine purposes.
Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of the examination.
Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
Retrieves radiologic orders from and inputs related data into electronic medical records.
Prepares patients for radiologic procedures.
Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, provides verbal and / or written instructions, and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
Positions patients on examining tables and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body requested by the physician.
Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision.
Provides patient care within a broad range of health care needs, including but not limited to ER, fluoroscopy, and portable units.
Moves radiographic equipment into specified positions and adjusts equipment controls to set graphic exposure factors based on knowledge of radiographic techniques and protocols.
Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding skills to minimize radiation exposure.
Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR / DR techniques and protocols.
Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories.
Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
Maintains examination rooms by ordering and stocking necessary medical and radiologic supplies according to established protocols.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
Supports department goals through personal improvements and educational activities.
Maintains professional standards in conjunction with those recommended by relevant societies.
Assists with monitoring patients' levels of moderate sedation in conjunction with procedures performed.
Initiates additional patient comfort measures / alternatives for sedation, as appropriate.
Assures informed consent has been obtained from the patient prior to the start of the procedure.
Actively participates in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures.
Performs appropriate patient care in a sterile environment under the guidance of the physician.
Demonstrates independent judgment in planning operations and making decisions in a complex technical field.
Works directly with patients and / or customers and internal / external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
