Position Summary

The incumbent's primary purpose is to serve as an Instructional Technologist for the Center for Teaching and Learning's Student Success efforts providing instructional design and learning analytics support. This position reports to the director for the Center for Teaching and Learning in Academic Affairs. In addition to providing culturally responsive hybrid and online course design services for Center for Teaching and Learning core programs, responsibilities include management and assessment of special course design and faculty professional development projects as funded by Federal, State, and CSU system external grants that are administered through the center. Must be able to work collaboratively with a diversity of faculty and administrators across the university as well as private and public granting agencies. Job responsibilities include leading and developing professional development curriculum for workshops and faculty learning community programs. Must be a flexible learner capable of shifting technology focus as new teaching modalities and learning tools emerge.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,492 per month (Step 1). Anticipated hiring rate is near or at the minimum of the classification salary range.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,492 per month (Step 1) - $ 9,458 per month (Step 20)

Salary step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.

Department Information

The mission of the Center of Teaching and Learning at Sacramento State is to empower the teaching and learning community by providing mentoring and supporting evidence-based and inclusive practices that engage teaching excellence to enhance and transform student learning experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Required Qualifications
Knowledge of
  1. Instructional design theories, pedagogical methods, online/hybrid teaching strategies, and accessibility principles.

  2. Academic technologies such as learning management tools, survey tools, and video conferencing

  3. Standards for quality online course design and remediation strategies for improving quality, such as Quality Matters (QM).

  4. Microsoft package applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Onedrive, Teams.

Skills

  1. Demonstrated skill in developing course materials and training a wide range of audiences in the use of technology and universal design for teaching and learning.
  2. Demonstrated skill at the Instructional Designer/Technologist II skill level, including the use of educational technology (hardware and software), university information systems, data sources and systems, and common office software packages (ex. Microsoft applications) and equipment (ex. scanners, video and audio recording devices).
  3. Applied analytical and critical thinking skills to investigate, define, and analyze problems.
  4. Applied problem solving and conflict resolution skills to facilitate team work and mediate interpersonal communication.

Abilities

  1. Ability to design and develop face to face, hybrid, and online courses in consultation with faculty and staff.
  2. Ability to use interpersonal and intercultural communication skills to deliver course design, technology, and learning assessment workshops to technical and non-technical audiences at diverse levels of the organization (student assistants, staff, faculty, administrators).
  3. Ability to work independently with self-direction skills to initiate plans, organize, prioritize, multitask, and coordinate work in an innovative and fast paced unit with competing priorities and distractions.
  4. Must be able to independently solve a wide range of technical and education technology problems by researching, developing, piloting, and assessing practical solutions.
  5. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively.
  6. Ability to work flexibly, respond to new center priorities, and collect and use data to inform and assess course design projects and collaborative teams.
  7. Ability to learn new hardware and software tools to design instructional materials and analyze data.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  1. Masters degree in instructional design, educational technology, computer or data science, information systems, or similar coursework or work experience.

Knowledge of

  1. Equity issues in Higher Education teaching, learning and technology accessibility.
  2. Alternative, formative, and low stakes learning assessment tools and formats.

Skills

  1. Demonstrated skill with video capture and interactive software applications such as Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud, Playposit, Zoom, Panopto.

  2. Demonstrated skill in creating hybrid, online, and hyflex courses that are taught by multiple instructors.

  3. Creating program proposals, plans, and assessments (Ex. Program to redesign high fail rate or large equity gap courses).

  4. Experience working collaboratively in a higher education environment and adaptive design for accessible

    learning.

Abilities

  1. Capable of effective communication and listening skills to identify faculty and/ or program needs and problems from multiple stakeholder perspectives.
  2. Ability to independently collect course design and faculty professional development program impact data and make presentations at campus meetings and CSU system and national education conferences.
