Special Education Resource Teacher (Grades 35)
Immediate job opportunity for a special education resource teacher (grades 35) in Phoenix, Arizona. Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, mildmoderate disabilities (no severe). $50 per hour for locals. Travel packages available too!
Are you a dedicated educator with a passion for supporting students with mild to moderate learning needs? A welcoming and collaborative school in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a special education resource teacher to serve students in 3rd through 5th grade. The team is ready to move quickly for the right candidate!
Position overview:
- Hours: 37.5 per week
- Grade levels: 3rd5th
- Caseload: Mild to moderate (no severe disabilities)
- Instructional model: Pull-out/push-in resource support, small groups, and individualized interventions
- IEP platform: e-IEP PRO, Arizona's widely used statewide web-based IEP system utilized by approximately 80% of districts and agencies
Classroom duties:
- Provide targeted resource support in reading, writing, and math through evidence-based interventions
- Develop, implement, and update IEPs in e-IEP PRO
- Collaborate with general education teachers to deliver accommodations, modifications, and co-teaching when appropriate
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
- Employ teaching techniques tailored for mildmoderate disabilities, such as:
- Differentiated instruction
- Explicit, systematic teaching
- Multi-sensory strategies
- Behavior supports and positive reinforcement systems
- Scaffolding and modeling
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Required education & certification (Arizona):
- Education requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (required)
- Completion of one of the following Arizona-approved pathways:
- A traditional special education preparation program, including student teaching
- A board-approved alternative special education preparation program
- A combination of teaching experience + required coursework (in some certification pathways)
- Certification requirements:
- Most resource teachers in grades 35 hold a standard professional mild/moderate disabilities special education certificate (K12), which:
- Requires a bachelor's degree
- Includes coursework in teaching methodologies for students with disabilities, assessment, and behavior management
- Requires passing professional knowledge and subject knowledge exams (AEPA/NES) for certification eligibility in Arizona
Preferred skills & teaching techniques:
- Experience supporting students with mildmoderate disabilities such as SLD, OHI, mild ID, ASD level 1, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple IEPs and collaborate in a team environment
- Strong understanding of:
- Small-group intervention models
- Multi-tiered instruction
- Progress monitoring tools
- Positive behavior management
