DEFINITION

Come join the team at the beautiful City of Redondo Beach! The Police Department is looking for a computer-savvy person who will be able to assist with communications and administrative tasks and more.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

Sample duties include but are not limited to :

Performs paraprofessional staff support by coordinating assigned tasks related to the public records requests and projects; implements directions from superiors that are provided orally and / or in writing; compiles and edits data; prepares reports that include conclusions and recommendations; composes, types, edits and reviews memos and correspondences; receives service requests and provides information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge and interpretive skills may be required; reviews and checks documents, records and forms; and performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires :

Knowledge of : Materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to record keeping practices and procedures; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; report writing, basic mathematical computations.

Ability to : Meet medical and physical employment standards for the classification; read, write, speak and understand English; understand and follow oral and written directions; compose correspondence, brochures, flyers and other informational documents; provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge and interpretive skills may be required; communicate effectively orally and in writing; work overtime as necessary; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and members of the public; legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California.

Education and Experience : Effective leadership skills, creativity, good decision making and exercising appropriate judgment, the ability to teach, and the ability to lead by example are preferred qualities. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Must possess a valid California Driver's License. Completion of high school is required, and some college coursework in a related field is highly desired.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

The hourly rate offered will depend on qualifications and will likely fall between $20.00 - $25.00 per hour.

SELECTION PROCESS :

The selection process may include but is not limited to : Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as : reference check, POST background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.

Note : All part-time and seasonal employees pay in to Social Security and Medicare (7.65%). City employees do not pay in to California State Disability (SDI).
