Position Overview
The Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for specific commodities and material categories critical to GTI’s fabrication and manufacturing operations.
This role focuses on supplier selection, contract negotiation, cost optimization, and risk management—ensuring that all goods and services align with GTI’s operational, quality, and strategic goals. The ideal candidate brings deep experience managing high-volume commodities such as steel, electrical components, fasteners, wiring, and industrial hardware, and thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned commodities and categories that support GTI’s operational goals, cost targets, and quality standards.
- Identify, qualify, and manage strategic suppliers for materials such as steel, aluminum, electrical components, and modular fabrication parts.
- Lead RFQ, RFP, and bid processes, analyze proposals, and negotiate contracts to achieve best value and risk mitigation.
- Manage supplier relationships, performance, and development through key metrics—on-time delivery, cost savings, quality performance, and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality to ensure materials meet technical specifications and manufacturability requirements.
- Forecast material demand and align procurement strategies with production schedules, project timelines, and inventory objectives.
- Identify cost-reduction and value-engineering opportunities through alternative sourcing, design changes, and process improvement.
- Monitor market trends, raw material pricing, and global supply chain risks, adjusting strategies proactively.
- Maintain supplier contracts, purchase agreements, and compliance documentation.
- Partner with Finance and Operations to track commodity spend, evaluate total cost of ownership (TCO), and support budgeting.
- Drive continuous improvement in sourcing processes, supplier management, and data accuracy within ERP systems (NetSuite preferred).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field.7+ years of progressive procurement or sourcing experience, preferably within manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial construction environments.Proven success managing commodity categories such as steel, metals, electrical components, fasteners, or mechanical assemblies.Strong negotiation, contract management, and analytical skills.Experience developing supplier performance scorecards and executing improvement plans.Proficiency in ERP / MRP systems (NetSuite preferred) and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and cost modeling.Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and how sourcing impacts production flow and inventory optimization.Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPIM, PMP, or related credentials.Experience sourcing for modular fabrication, defense, or energy storage systems.Knowledge of metal market trends, tariffs, and international logistics.Experience in supplier development, audits, and sustainability initiatives.Working Conditions
