Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Dental Hygienist for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton Illinois to perform technical and advisory services in dental hygiene including prophylaxis. Performs educational and organizational work in promoting oral hygiene. Assists in preparing individuals for dental treatment including lifting individuals from wheelchairs into the dental chair. Keeps records of activities performed. Performs infection control procedures to prevent cross contamination.

Essential Functions

• Performs technical and advisory services in dental hygiene including prophylaxis.
• Assists in preparing individuals for dental treatment including lifting individuals from wheelchairs into the dental chair.
• Instructs direct care and nursing staff in dental health in-service programs to educate them on proper tooth brushing techniques recognizing abnormal oral conditions and diet and nutrition measures as they affect dental health.
• Keeps records of activities performed within area of responsibility including annual review summaries.
• Performs infection control procedures to prevent cross contamination.
• Inputs Continuous Quality Indicator data on computer on a daily basis.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
