Director, Justice & Peace
The Director of Justice and Peace is responsible for providing vision and strategic leadership to World Renew's Justice and Peace Program, its staff, projects, partnerships, resource development, and external engagement.
This role will uphold World Renew's core values and principles, ensuring the effective delivery of Justice and Peace programming that is rooted in biblical teachings throughout our Global Program. The position will strengthen our capacity in Justice and Peace initiatives by collaborating with World Renew staff, program teams, and partners to develop and implement strategies for Christian faith-based, transformational, and community-driven projects. These activities will be closely aligned with our global strategy, maintain high standards of quality, and yield measurable impact and value for the resources invested.
This position reports to the Chief Program and Impact Officer and is a member of World Renew's Global Operations Team and Program Working Group. This leader is expected to work closely with our Humanitarian and Community Development streams as part of our triple nexus approach and with our regional, functional, and fundraising teams to collaborate on programmatic interventions, communications, fundraising, and advocacy work.
This position will strengthen the organization's visibility in Justice and Peace initiatives. It will position World Renew as a leading agency, delivering impactful programming, shaping policy, advocating for change, and engaging with external partners such as churches, government bodies, institutional donors, and alliance networks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Program and Team Leadership : To oversee and guide the Justice and Peace Team, ensuring that our global programs are consistent with World Renew's organizational values and standards in areas including justice, peacebuilding, and reconciliation, policy advocacy, public engagement, gender equality, inclusion, transformative change approaches, and human rights. The incumbent will :
- Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with organizational leaders, external networks, and other key stakeholders.
- Direct the development and oversee the implementation of the Global Justice, Research, and Public Engagement Strategy, ensuring alignment between World Renew's Regional Teams' justice action plans and global strategy.
- Supervise the activities of the Justice and Peace team, ensuring that staff maintain high morale, enhance their competencies, and have access to professional development opportunities through well-defined work plans and processes. Foster a culture of continuous learning among all team members.
- Support program teams in designing, implementing, and monitoring justice and peacebuilding programs through targeted capacity-building initiatives and, where appropriate, provide training, guidance, and support to partners, churches, and staff engaged in justice and peacebuilding activities.
- Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools to track the progress and impact of justice and peacebuilding activities. Collect data to assess the effectiveness of interventions and identify areas for improvement and learnings to disseminate.
- Enhance program impact by providing thought leadership and guidance to program teams, promoting the integration of an intersectional approach to equity, accessibility, peace, human rights, and justice throughout World Renew's program designs and practices.
- Participate as a member of World Renew's Global Operations and Program Working Group, representing global justice perspectives.
- Lead and co-design global advocacy, education, and community action campaigns, aiming to motivate and engage staff, partners, and constituents in responding to opportunities related to gender equality, economic justice, and other justice areas relevant to World Renew's mission.
- Participate in the leadership of World Renew's Gender Community of Practice and gender Working Group, facilitating monthly meetings and mobilizing members towards actionable initiatives.
- Evaluate new grant funding opportunities, collaborating with World Renew's Grants team(s) to ensure that proposals, program design, and donor reports reflect a transformative approach to peace, justice, and gender.
- External Representation : To represent World Renew to external groups including supporting churches, government entities, institutional donors, alliances, and networks, promoting the organization's visibility in gender, justice, and peace programs. The incumbent will :
- Establish and sustain productive relationships with government agencies, institutional donors, civil society organizations, research institutes, and academic partners, representing World Renew in key spaces such as Global Affairs Canada's Civil Society Advisory Group and with the US State Department.
- Strengthen strategic alliances to enhance collaboration, influence agenda and priority setting, and mobilize resources to support the development and implementation of policies and programs that align with World Renew's core values, principles, and organizational strategy.
- Represent World Renew at relevant conferences, symposia, and other peace and justice-focused forums, preparing knowledge pieces for presentation and report back into World Renew with learnings.
- Collaborate with our national, regional, and global stakeholders to lead, co-lead, or join policy advocacy initiatives on thematic areas that impact World Renew's key focus areas. This includes developing policy briefs, case studies, high-level reports, and participation in national, regional, and global forums to amplify the voices of grassroots partners for systemic change.
- Elevate World Renew's profile by effectively presenting its justice and peace initiatives, policy strategies, and practices to key stakeholders, including North American constituentssuch as churches and private donorsinstitutional donors, and private foundations.
- Knowledge Management : To collaborate with World Renew teams and external partners to develop knowledge materials relevant to World Renew's work for international advocacy and programmatic strengthening. The incumbent will :
- Provide leadership in collaboration with other teams and Communities of Practice for the collection and dissemination of lessons learned on justice and peace issues relevant to World Renew's work, including gender equality, economic justice, food sovereignty, climate justice, peace building, immigration, and indigenous issues.
- Identify key insights and document them in 2 to 3 prioritized knowledge products per year that are tied to decision points, with plans to track uptake and practice change within World Renew's Global Programs.
- Develop justice, peace, and advocacy-related knowledge products, such as documentaries, case studies, community-based action research, and program tools and manuals.
- Monitor, evaluate, and respond to fundraising trends that may impact donor engagement and campaign performance.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will have 2-4 direct reports in relation to Gender, Peacebuilding, Policy development, Justice, and external engagement.
Qualifications
A practicing Christian with active engagement in a local Christian community.Committed to working towards gender equality, equity, and justice in all aspects of World Renew's programming, plans, policies, and organizational structure.Demonstrated experience in promoting a work environment that values diversity and equality, and respectful relationships with others. Proven communication and interpersonal skills in a multicultural work environment.Ability to articulate the importance of Justice, Peacebuilding, and advocacy from a Biblical perspective.Successful track record in program design and proposal development with a strong peace and justice lens in a variety of geographic locations, including experience in design, M&E, and project management of gender transformative projects.Demonstrated experience providing support to field teams on gender integration, social inclusion, justice, and peacebuilding.Proven ability to coach, train, and provide program support (e.g. job aids, curated resources, etc.) to staff and local partners on gender analysis and program designs.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.Flexible, adaptable, detail-oriented, team player.Familiarity working with bilateral donors.Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in a second language such as French, Spanish, or Swahili is an asset.Ability to travel internationally.Demonstrated computer literacy and experience using Microsoft 365.Education & Experience
A master's degree in international development / affairs, Human Rights, Gender studies, or related field.Proven programmatic expertise in leading advocacy campaigns and social justice initiatives.At least 10 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas : justice and peace programming, international development, human rights, or gender-transformative approachespreferably with engagement in global institutional platforms.Extensive experience collaborating with faith-based organizations on initiatives concerning gender, justice, and peacebuilding in multiple contexts.
