The Sr Analyst, Tax Research analyzes and researches tax law and will assist in developing/implementing tax policy.
Analyzes and researches complex multi-state tax issues, develops thoroughly documented technical analysis and work papers and effectively communicates conclusions and recommendations.
Identifies issues, applies independent judgment and provides insights through clear, concise review notes.
Review complex telecommunications, sales, use, surcharge, gross receipts and excise tax transactions for compliance and audit documentation.
Assists with tax filing questions, assessments, and audits.
Participates in the research, analysis and documentation of tax planning initiatives. Remain current in legislative and tax policy initiatives that have a significant impact to the company. Communicates effectively with Tax leadership and other Tax team members on the implications of tax policy matters.
Request and review from data owners or extract from TM's systems information needed to satisfy auditors' requests for determining compliance with tax laws or ordinances.
Assists in the development and maintenance of best practices and procedures for the tax compliance function, including related SOX 404 requirements.
Assists with tax planning strategies.
Participates in the research, analysis and documentation of state tax exposure items including FAS 5 analysis for non-income taxes and FIN 48 positions/disclosures for income taxes.
May participate in audits through preparation of supporting documentation including research analysis.
Juris Doctorate in Tax law or Accounting degree and experience in related fields. Licensed in at least one state and current member in good standing of a State Bar or CPA licensure preferred. 2-5 years progressive tax experience in a multi-state environment with emphasis on research and planning preferred. Experience with Tax Research required (Westlaw, Lexis, Checkpoint). Experience with data and analytics preferred. MS Office and strong communications skills required. Telecommunication industry experience preferred.
