Job Location : Sterling Correctional Facility : Sterling Colorado.

Description of Job

The position provides classroom and individualized instruction in Career and Technical Education in Construction to assist offenders in obtaining entry level marketable job skills and college course completions utilizing approved curriculum.

Job Duties Include :

  • Teach and mentor inmate students individually or in large and small group classrooms promoting occupational academic and transitional performance skills;
  • Determine educational needs of inmate students to develop short and long term goals;
  • Plan course content and develop methods of instruction;
  • Develop and implement competency-based teaching aids such as instructional software multimedia visual aids or study materials;
  • Lecture on theories concepts and terminology of customer service;
  • Select and administer appropriate performance assessments to inmatestudents in order to measure progress course completion requirements and to evaluate training / testing effectiveness;
  • Ensure security safety supervision and monitoring of inmatestudents in the proper use storage and inventory of equipment tools keys and hazardous materials in accordance with CDOC regulations;
  • Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades attendance rosters and training activity details;
  • Observe and evaluate inmate students work to determine progress provide feedback and make suggestions for improvement;
  • Document inmate achievements competencies and contact hours towards completion of certificate requirements;
  • Provide oversight and coordination of Computer Based Testing lab and record security to include test proctoring of all computer based testing;
  • Justify accuracy and usage of budget requests;
  • Participate in conferences seminars and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field and integrates relevant information into training programs;
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers in a cooperative effort to promote mutual and continued guidance and improvements;
  • Actively contribute to the

  • Safety & Security - This position maintains safety and security by training inmates and will be required to work security posts perform inmate counts shakedowns searches escorts movement control and inmate access to classrooms. Through conscientious observation and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations and the Code of Penal Discipline the position promotes a safe and secure work environment.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates Degree in business customer service or a related field AND the applicant must have completed 4000 hours of

  • verifiable occupational experience in a construction industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).
  • There is no substitution for the completed 4000 hours as referenced above.

  • Verifiable occupational experience includes occupations in the service industry to include but not limited to : positions where the individual interfaces directly with clients / customers to provide services resolve problems connect people and support positive experiences with a business. Examples include but are not limited to : retail front desk service hospitality / host service servers banking phone support counseling and / or advising.
  • Experience MUST be described in detail on your application to receive credit.

    OR

    SUBSTITUTION #1 :

    In lieu of an Associates Degree in a business / customer service industry or related field of study applicant must possess a current State of Colorado national industry military or union license / certification as appropriate for a construction industry skill or related trade area AND the applicant must have completed 4000 hours verifiable occupational experience in a business / customer service industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

    There is no substitution for the completed 4000 hours as referenced above.

    OR

    SUBSTITUTION #2 :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree in a business or customer service industry or related field of study AND the applicant must have completed 2000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in a construction industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

    There is no substitution for the completed 2000 hours as referenced above.

    Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.     Conditions of employment after meeting the minimum qualifications :

  • Must possess or obtain a CCCS post-secondary credential in the customer service field in compliance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Must obtain a Colorado Community College Professional Teacher Credential within three (3) years of date of hire.
  • Must maintain a Colorado Community College Initial / Professional Teacher Credential through the duration of employment.
  • A copy of your college transcripts MUST be attached to this application in order to receive college course work credit. Transcripts must include your name name of the institution degree date conferred and be in pdf or jpg format.

    Transcripts from colleges or universities outside the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service.

    Out of State Applicants Minimum Qualifications :

    If hired you will be required to complete the necessary steps to obtain your Career and Technical Education credential through the Prison Programs office for the Colorado Department of Corrections. This will require that you be able to provide evidence of degrees through transcript copies of industry certification and relevant work experience documentation.

    Swing a baton in a striking technique

    Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;

    Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions

    Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment

    Must be able to see and hear in order to observe address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security

    Seize hold control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury

    Demonstrate body agility strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently

    Work in situations involving assaultive behavior physical control of another person and / or restraint situations

    Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors utilizing tactfulness and a congenial personable manner
