Unit Overview\n\n# of Beds : 12\n\nPatient Types : CHF, COPD, pneumonia, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis.\nMost surgical patients transfer out; surgeon is on-site only 2 days per week.\n\nEnvironment : Very friendly, team-oriented facility. Flexibility and strong teamwork are essential. Travelers must be willing to adjust schedules and work as needed.\n\nStaffing & Ratios\n\nRN Ratios : 1 : 4–6\n\nCharge RN : Yes; role depends on census. Typically does not take patients and is available to assist the ER as needed.\n\nNurse Aides : Yes, each shift.\n\nCertifications\n\nRequired : BLS, ACLS\n\nPreferred : PALS\n\nEquipment & Skills\n\nEMR : CPSI\n\nTelemetry : Central monitoring with tele packs\n\nDo nurses read strips? No monitor tech; RNs must read and interpret strips (ED nurse may also assist)\n\nDrip Management : RNs must be able to titrate drips.\n\nPressors may be used temporarily until transfer\n\nCommon drips : Heparin, Nitro, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin\n\nVent Management : No vents in this unit\n\nIV Team : None—strong IV skills preferred\n\nPICC lines placed by provider during daytime\n\nRespiratory Care : No RT in-house; nurses perform all treatments (BiPAP, breathing treatments, etc.)\n\nER nurse can serve as a resource\n\nPharmacy : \n\nOn -site pharmacist until 3 PM\n\nTele-pharmacy available after hours\n\nRN may need to mix meds if ordered after hours\n\nScheduling\n\nShift : 7 AM – 7 : 30 PM / 7 PM – 7 : 30 AM\n\nWeekend Requirement : Every 3rd weekend (or more as needed)\n\nHolidays : Rotates with permanent staff\n\nScrubs : Any professional, appropriate color\n\nOther Requirements\n\nFloat : Yes, within the facility based on unit needs and traveler qualifications\n\nOrientation : 1 shift with a preceptor\n\nHospitalist Coverage : \n\nER covered 24 / 7\n\nHospitalist 7 days a week; on-call and can return if needed
