This is a FULL TIME/DIRECT HIRE position requiring availability between the hours of 8AM-5:00PM, Monday through Friday, (ON-CALL DUTIES REQUIRED) located in Virginia Beach, VA (23462).
Clinical Director – Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Program
Position: Full-Time Clinical Director (Direct Hire)
Program Type: Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Program
Experience Required: Minimum 3+ years clinical leadership experience in MH/SUD treatment
License Required: LCSW, LCP, PsyD, PhD, or similar (Virginia License)
Role Overview:
The Clinical Director provides overall leadership and clinical oversight for a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment program. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and is excited by the opportunity to help build, shape, and refine clinical operations during the early stages of program development.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Clinical Director will play a hands-on role in establishing clinical structure, supporting staff, and ensuring high-quality client care while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing all clinical programming and service delivery within the SUD program
- Supervising, training, and supporting clinical staff in a developing program environment
- Helping establish and refine clinical workflows, policies, and best practices
- Ensuring compliance with DBHDS, licensing, and insurance requirements
- Managing clinical admissions, assessments, and preliminary treatment planning
- Overseeing ISPs, master treatment plans, and ARTS authorizations
- Monitoring client length of stay, extensions, and coverage concerns
- Facilitating weekly treatment planning meetings
- Providing individual, group, and family therapy as needed
- Responding to clinical emergencies and providing on-call consultation
- Conducting chart reviews to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance
- Leading clinical quality assurance, utilization review, and improvement initiatives
- Collaborating closely with executive leadership to support program growth and staffing needs
- Supporting crisis intervention and complex clinical decision-making
- Maintaining professionalism, adaptability, and a positive leadership presence
- Performing other duties as assigned
- Direct Supervision of clinical staff within an IOP setting
- Ongoing responsibility for program structure, schedules, documentation flow, and compliance

Requirements:
- 3+ years of leadership and supervisory experience in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment (residential or outpatient)
- Active LCSW, LCP, LMFT, PsyD, PhD, or similar license through the Virginia Department of Health Professions
- Master’s or PhD from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or related field
- Ability to supervise counselors and case managers
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, developing environment
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting program launches, growth, or expansion
- Experience treating co-occurring mental health disorders
- Prior experience operating under DBHDS licensure requirements
