Job Description
The Executive Director reports to the Gastineau Human Services Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall operation of the Corporation. This position is responsible for administering, planning, and general oversight of all corporate operations and has a particular function in guiding the agency to fulfill its mission, vision, and core values. This position is permanent, full-time, and exempt.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
- Supervises the Administrative Support Coordinator and four program directors : Behavioral Health, Finance and Administration, Operations, and Reentry Services.
Illustrative Tasks :
Establishes long-range and short-term goals for the agency and its programs.Responsible for overseeing the annual agency budget and budget projections.Responsible for program development supporting the agency’s mission and annual goals.Pursues and approves grant and contract proposals that support and / or further the agency’s mission.Submits monthly programmatic and financial reports to the Board of Directors.Hires, promotes, trains and / or dismisses corporate employees in accordance with written policies.Sets goals for performance and deadlines in ways that support the mission and vision of GHS.
Monitors department performance and productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching as needed.Develops agency policies and procedures in accordance with federal and state regulations.Interprets and communicates board policy to staff, clients, applicable agencies, and the public.Develops and maintains working relationships with community stakeholders and public and private agencies within policy guidelines.Represents the agency to the community and the media.Knowledge / Abilities / Skills
Ability to write and speak effectively and professionally.Ability to build trust and manage a highly diverse client population and professional staff.Ability to relate to correctional and clinical professionals.Commitment to follow and defend regulatory requirements provided by the Department of Corrections, the Department of Health and Social Services, professional licensing and accreditation agencies, and State of Alaska statutes.Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and Alaska Department of Corrections.Thorough knowledge of reentry and behavioral health needs and resources within the community and the state.Required Experience / Training :
A Master’s degree in the field of business or public administration, education, psychology, sociology, or a related field, and a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior management position with a nonprofit agency with emphasis in criminal justice and alcohol and other drug abuse fields, or;A Bachelor’s degree in the field of business or public administration, education, psychology, sociology, or a related field, and a minimum of eight years experience in a senior management position with a non-profit agency with emphasis in criminal justice and alcohol and other drug abuse fields.Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must pass the Department of Corrections and Department of Health background checks.Must pass drug test upon hire.Must have a current, valid State of Alaska driver's license or ID and be insurable by GHS’ auto insurance.At-Will Employment Policy Statement
