Job Summary

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will play a crucial role in treating patients across all age groups, from infants to geriatrics, in accordance with physicians' orders and departmental policies. This position requires independence in acute and critical care settings, along with the ability to consult with physicians and recommend treatment options. Accountabilities

• Execute respiratory therapy procedures in accordance with physician's orders and departmental protocols - 20%
• Collect blood gas samples from all sites and accurately analyze and report results - 10%
• Initiate, monitor, and manage patients on all types of mechanical ventilation - 20%
• Manage all types of airways and associated equipment - 10%
• Document and charge for all respiratory care procedures and provide education to patients and families as needed - 10%
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, providing thorough reports and recommendations - 10%
• Adhere to infection control protocols, performing cleaning and sterilization of equipment as necessary - 10%
• Utilize resources efficiently, including supplies and time management.

Supervisory / Management Responsibility

This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor or manager.

Minimum Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or eligible for licensure in South Carolina. Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina or must be a senior student graduating in the next three months.

Required Certifications / Registrations / Licenses

Must possess a valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license or be eligible for licensure in South Carolina, along with BLS certification. National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials must be maintained. Employees hired prior to June 2016 may hold a Certified Respiratory Therapist credential. New hires from June 2016 onwards must pass the Registered Therapist cut score and the Clinical Simulation Exam within six months of graduation, with potential termination for non-completion.

Additional certifications such as NRP and PALS are required for roles in the Children's Hospital before independent work in NICU and PICU.
