Description
The City of Geneva is seeking a qualified journeyman lineman to join our Construction and Maintenance crew in our Public Works Department Electric Division. The Journeyman Lineman is part of a crew that performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and inspection of the City's electric (12-34kV) utility system. Work is typically performed 7 a.m. to 3 : 30 p.m. Monday - Friday, but this position must be available for emergency and after-hours call-out when necessary.
The successful candidate will have experience or expertise in methods & procedures required in the maintenance / construction of electric utility systems. This includes the proper use of tools & equipment; related hazards & safety precautions; and applicable codes & standards governing construction / maintenance of overhead & underground electric distribution systems.
To qualify, applicants must have obtained a journey-level certification from a recognized apprenticeship program, a total of five years of experience as a Journeyman in electrical line work is preferred.
Examples of Duties
Primary job responsibilities include the construction and maintenance of City overhead and underground distribution systems, fiber optic splicing, and rotating on-call responsibilities. This position will be able to safely and efficiently install, maintain, and repair components of the electric utility system; isolate and correct electrical system faults, breaks and cuts; work safely with high voltage overhead and underground power cables, transformers, and related electric utility facilities and equipment; operate a backhoe, bucket / boom truck; maintain and care for assigned tools and equipment; read, understand, and interpret engineering plans and specifications; deal tactfully, and professionally with supervisors, contractors, engineers, and property owners; communicate effectively; and be able to use a computer to enter, extract and query data. Reliable attendance, punctuality and availability are essential to the position.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience : High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by completion of a four-year line school apprenticeship program; and five years of related work experience.
Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered
Licenses and Certifications :
Journeyman Lineman Certificate
Fiber Optic Training Certificate
Commercial Driver's License (CDL, Class A) - must be obtained within one year of employment

This position requires the incumbent to reside within 16 miles (straight distance) of the Geneva City limits within one year of hire. Acceptable residential areas can be found in the green and yellow areas of the
