Provides secretarial and clinical support to physicians and surgeons and performs administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Associates Degree or High School Diploma / GED plus two years of related experience. Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program if performing clinical duties. Three years of related experience. Certified Medical Assistant required if performing Medical Assistant duties.

Responsibilities include scheduling appointments for patients, taking detailed clinical phone messages for physician or advanced allied healthcare provider, acquiring insurance authorizations for procedures and tests ordered by attending physician, entering orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or preparing prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the ordering physician, maintaining logging system as required for tracking test results, assisting in the maintenance of medical charts and / or electronic medical record (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms), scheduling surgeries / procedures or working in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary, performing medical assistant duties if qualified, such as performing venipuncture and / or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam / procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Assisting physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information, retrieving physician correspondence from dictation service, editing where necessary, preparing physicians mail correspondence, compiling documents for surgical billing packages, maintaining, adjusting and confirming patient office schedule, helping direct patient flow during practice hours, participating in revenue cycle processes, performing medical scribe responsibilities, and performing other duties as assigned.

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $26.2377 - $32.727 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses / incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
