FT Assistant Professor - Nursing

Job Summary:

***This position requires an on-campus presence and traditional in-person teaching. The on campus commitment will match the MAHE contract of 2-3 days per week.***

Full-time Nursing faculty play a vital role in shaping the next generation of nursing professionals. They deliver high-quality and engaging instruction in didactic, lab, and clinical settings. Faculty must continually adapt their teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and promote student success, all while incorporating the latest developments in the field, effective teaching practices, innovations in healthcare education, and accreditation guidelines. Faculty of record are responsible for developing and coordinating the learning activities and outcomes for all course identifiers incorporated in assigned courses. They must collaborate with lab and clinical faculty to ensure continuity between didactic content and hands-on skills. Collaboration with peers and administrators is essential to align each level of the curriculum with the program’s overall objectives and mission. Full-time Nursing faculty must actively contribute to program and department meetings, as well as college-wide committees, with a shared commitment to continuously enhancing curriculum and student learning outcomes. Instructors must engage in a wide range of academic activities including curriculum and course development, course coordination, student advising and tutoring, faculty mentoring, and participation in college initiatives. Full-time faculty must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to effectively manage multiple responsibilities. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential for teaching, collaboration, and student engagement. Faculty must also demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy.

An on-campus presence and traditional in-person teaching is required. Depending upon program needs and the candidate’s qualifications, teaching assignments will be primarily on LCC’s downtown Lansing campus with the possibility of clinical site and/or online assignments.

Faculty in this position must be qualified to teach in one or more of the following courses and subject areas:
• NURS 201: Patient-Centered Care
• NURS 211: Intro to Nursing Practice
• NURS 212: Concepts of Pharmacology
• NURS 221: Nursing Practice I
• NURS 222: Childbearing Families *Demonstrated experience in Pathophysiology and Obstetrics is required to teach this course
• NURS 231: Nursing Practice II
• NURS 232: Children and Their Families *Demonstrated experience in Pathophysiology and Pediatrics is required to teach this course
• NURS 241: Nursing Practice III
• NURS 242: Professional Practice

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.

Current unrestricted State of Michigan Registered Nurse license; must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Current American Heart Association or Red Cross BLS Certification for healthcare professionals (includes AED & Pediatrics); certification must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Demonstrated clinical nursing experience.

Significant clinical teaching experience at the college level in Nursing.

Demonstrated Nursing experience in one or more of the following areas: Medical-Surgical, Pathophysiology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Patient-Centered Care theories, and/or related subject.

Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing Education.

Didactic teaching experience at the college or community college level.

Specialty nursing certification.

Experience with simulation utilizing high-fidelity nursing education.

Online teaching experience or Michigan Virtual University certification or equivalent.

Demonstrated analysis, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of teaching methodologies, including online strategies.

Course management system (Desire2Learn, Canvas, Blackboard, Angel, etc.) experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including email, electronic calendars, presentation software, etc.
