About Dustin's Place
Dustin's Place provides compassionate, peer-based grief support for children, teens, and families. Our mission is simple and powerful : no one grieves alone . Through school-based groups, community partnerships, and family programming, we create safe spaces where grieving children can express their grief, build coping skills, and find connection.
We are reopening our search for a Director of Community Care to help expand our children's grief-support programming throughout South Bend.
Position Overview
The Director of Community Care plays a key leadership role in expanding Dustin's Place's reach within South Bend schools and community organizations. This position facilitates children's grief-support groups, builds and maintains strong school and community partnerships, and oversees part-time Community-Based Child Grief Specialists.
This role is best suited for someone with prior experience working directly with children, ideally in group settings, who is passionate about community-based support and grief care.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate children's grief-support groups in South Bend schools and community organizations (approximately 15–18 groups per week)Lead evening children's groups at Dustin's Place in PlymouthServe as the primary liaison for South Bend schools and community partnersCollaborate with the Program Director to implement age-appropriate, research-based programmingOversee and support 3–4 part-time Community-Based Child Grief SpecialistsRepresent Dustin's Place at community meetings and outreach eventsParticipate in staff meetings, training, and organizational retreatsRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in social work, child development, education, counseling, psychology, or a related field3–5 years of experience working directly with children , ideally in community-based or school-based settingsPrevious experience facilitating groups with children or youth strongly preferredStrong relationship-building and communication skillsReliable transportation and ability to travel throughout South BendFlexibility for some evening workAlignment with Dustin's Place values : compassionate, trustworthy, community-focused, inclusive, and safePreferred Qualifications
Experience supporting children through grief, loss, trauma, or major life transitionsExperience working in or partnering with schools or youth-serving organizationsComfort representing an organization in the community and building partnershipsExperience supporting part-time staff, interns, or volunteersCompensation & Benefits
