Job Summary
This position involves providing essential respiratory care to patients as directed by physicians and departmental policies. You will work autonomously in acute and critical care environments, consulting with physicians and making informed treatment recommendations. The role requires expertise in treating patients across all age groups, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Accountabilities
- Perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures as per physician's orders and departmental guidelines. - 20%
- Collect and analyze blood gas samples from various sites, reporting results accurately. - 10%
- Initiate, monitor, and manage patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. - 20%
- Manage all types of airways and related equipment. - 10%
- Document and charge for all respiratory care actions accurately and provide education to patients and families. - 10%
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing complete reports and making recommendations as needed. - 10%
- Adhere to infection control protocols and perform proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of equipment between patients. - 10%
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of resources, including supplies and time. - 10%
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina, or be a graduating senior within 3 months.Required Certifications
Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina or eligible for licensure; BLS certification required.NBRC credentials must be maintained. Employees hired prior to June 2016 may hold Certified Respiratory Therapist status.Employees hired from June 2016 onward must pass the Therapist Multiple Choice Exam at the Registered Therapist cutoff score and the Clinical Simulation Exam within 6 months post-graduation; failure to pass results in termination.NRP and PALS are required in the Children's Hospital prior to independent work in NICU and PICU.Other Skills and Experience
