Job Summary
To support clinical teaching and service in a general / urgent care practice of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. College Degree or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job. A current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License is required.
2. Ability to read, write and transfer medical records / recommendations for overnight care.
3. Ability to calculate client’s bills, drug dosages, and dilutions.
4. Ability to restrain, handle and perform a physical exam on a variety of animal species. Broad species experience is desirable.
5. Knowledge and enthusiasm for small animal general practice / urgent care veterinary medical terminology, veterinary medical procedures, surgical nursing, and basic sanitation and upkeep of veterinary medical equipment and environments.
6. Ability to perform a variety of basic veterinary office procedures.
7. Must be able to interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff, students, clients and outside visitors / vendors.
8. Ability to use computers for Internet searches and for Excel, Word and PowerPoint documents.
9. Educate pet owners on proper animal care and medication admnistration.
10. Knowledge in monitoring general anesthesia with normal healthy patients, including working with various monitoring equipment
11. Knowledge in placing IV catheters
12. Knowledge of administration of IV, IM and SQ injections
13. Ability for logical, independent problem solving, and attention to detail and process
14. Knowledge in proper restraint and handling techniques
15. Can perform routine lab work and diagnostics
16. Knowledge of surgery instrumentation
17. Knowledge in taking and transferring radiographs
18. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with organizational skills Required Qualifications Education :
