About the Role The Associate, Data Analytics ensures that Good Reason Houston’s efforts are shaped and sharpened by insights from rigorous data analysis, and that insights can be shared across the community to accelerate and amplify our impact.
- This role will report to the Director, Research & Data Strategy and work with other functional teams as needed. The Associate, Data Analytics will serve as a front line data analyst and data manager.
- Following data documentation and structuring best practices, as well as internal team expectations, the Associate is responsible for data collection, compilation, cleaning, and maintenance.
- In collaboration with the Managers, Research & Data, the Associate will maintain our database and create data dashboards.
- Subsequently, this role ensures that all Good Reason Houston workstreams have access to high quality, accurate data to support data-driven decisionmaking.
- The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong attention to detail and is passionate about sustaining data excellence at an organization focused on improving outcomes for every child in the Houston region.
- The candidate should be interested in gaining exposure to all elements of quantitative research, including quantitative data collection and analysis and data hygiene in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment.
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Primary Responsibilities Data Management & Research (60%) Support execution of organization-wide research agenda through data cleaning and management Collaborate with internal team to ensure data can appropriately answer desired research questions Work with Managers, Research & Data to clean, structure, and store data according to internal procedures and industry best practices Perform recurring and ad hoc quantitative data analysis that maximizes Good Reason Houston’s impact and aligns with strategic and external affairs objectives Leverage existing data sources to address primary and secondary research questions, including large administrative datasets Execute on new research projects aligned with Good Reason Houston’s mission and vision Develop expertise on publicly available state- and national- data sources on education Develop expertise on relevant research topics and methods Data Storytelling (30%) Support internal team to surface insights from data analyses and create compelling visualizations, dashboards, presentations, blogs, memos, and reports that communicate key insights to various audiences, including district and elected leaders, school-based leaders and staff, parents, community organizations, and funders Collaborate with District Partnerships, Communications, Advancement, and Policy & Advocacy teams to produce reports, including presentations, annual reports, grant reports and funder updates and other external communications; support content development related to sharing insights from data Internal Client Management (10%) Process requests for data from internal stakeholders across other functional teams in alignment with Research, Data, and Insights team priorities Serve as a liaison between Research, Data, and Insights team and other functional teams in support of organization strategic priorities Maintain dashboards and databases to share frequently requested data from internal and external stakeholders Maintain project plans and communicate to other Research, Data, and Insights team members on any contingencies and changes to timelines and deliverables Support other special projects or duties as assigned. Qualifications & Key Attributes 2+ years professional experience in a similar role, or a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Political Science, Public Policy, Education Policy, Statistics, or similar area.
- Familiarity with education a plus but not required.
- Prior experience with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau) Prior experience with with data analysis / statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Alteryx, Stata) Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills Experience working with large administrative datasets preferred Extremely strong and precise organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail Ability to produce quality work under tight deadlines Strong initiative in uncertain situations and good problem-solving skills Flexibility to respond to emerging needs Ability to operate with confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information Demonstrated passion for the mission of Good Reason Houston Our Team Our core values reflect the principles that ground and guide our work.

- The starting salary range for this position is $60,000 annually.
- New hires are offered a salary depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
- Benefits offered include 401(k) (automatic 3% employer contribution), life, medical, dental and vision insurance packages.
- Each employee accrues 35 paid time off days per calendar year in addition to the 19 paid holidays per year.
- Good Reason Houston is an office-based organization, but allows for virtual work on Mondays and Fridays.
