Job Description
General Summary:
The Chemical Engineering Scientist supports Vertex's drug development programs by applying fundamental engineering science to the development of pipeline candidates and to the creation of robust drug substance and drug product manufacturing processes. This role will design and execute chemistry and engineering experiments under limited supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working within a group of engineers and chemists in defining, developing, and demonstrating commercially viable, multi-step, organic syntheses for the manufacture of small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients
- Participates in drug substance process development efforts via laboratory development, drug supply preparation, and technology transfer to third party manufacturing facilities
- Troubleshoots a diverse range of chemistry and engineering issues at the bench and applies corrective measures
- Collates and interprets data systematically, and compiles results into clear conclusions or recommendations to guide project decisions
- Explores the application of novel scientific approaches

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
- PhD and 0-3 years, a Master's and 3+ years, a Bachelor's and 6+ years, or the equivalent combination of education and experience related to Chemical Engineering

On-Site Designated
Flex Eligibility Status:
In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
