The Pupil Services department is seeking Home Instructors for the 2025-2026 school year. A home instructor is an individual with a valid teaching license who provides supports to a student in a home-based or off-site setting. The student may not be able to attend school for a variety of reasons, or may have intermittent absences that necessitate additional instructional support. When the need arises throughout the school year, an email will be sent to the list of possible home instructors. At that time, you can compare the request to your availability and determine if you are interested. On average, a student receives 3-5 hours per week of instruction. A valid teaching license is required. The Non-PEA rate is $30.30 per hour.
Job Objectives: Carries out the teacher's prepared lesson plan during a student's prolonged absence as defined by board policy. The student may not be able to attend school for a variety of reasons, or may have intermittent absences that necessitate additional instructional support. When the need arises throughout the school year, an email will be sent to the list of possible home instructors. At that time, you can compare the request to your availability and determine if you are interested. The homebound instructor is responsible for leading home instruction for students as provided by the classroom teacher.
Essential Functions:
1. Follows teacher's written lesson plans.
2. Teaches scheduled lessons. Prepares a written summary of work completed. Makes the teacher aware of special situations or problems encountered.
3. Implements effective pupil management procedures including in a virtual setting. Maintains high standards and upholds student conduct code.
4. Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest.
5. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
6. Provides guidance, communicates high expectations, and shows and active interest in the student. Facilitates critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity skills.
7. Works cooperatively with teachers, parents/guardians, and the student. Works with the parent/guardian to determine home instruction times.
8. Incorporates effective use of available technology.
9. Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
10. Takes the initiative to perform routine tasks independently.
11. Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
12. Understands and uses district crisis plan protocol to respond to emergencies.
13. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
14. Watch for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g. profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc. ) Intervene and or report concerns to the administrator.
15. Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
16. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
17. Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Valid Ohio teaching or substitute license or certificate in appropriate licensure area
• Documentation of a clear criminal record with evidence from BCI and FBI
• Self-directed and able to learn quickly
• Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation
• Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work performance.
• Good health, high moral character and good attendance record.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and a sincere desire to aid all students

• Proficient in virtual / video platforms in order to conduct online tutoring sessions as needed.
Additional Working Conditions:
• Duties may entail occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
• Duties may require traveling to various buildings throughout the district.
• Duties may require occasional interaction among unruly children.
• Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, lifting, carrying and moving work related supplies/equipment.
• Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.
• Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
• Duties may require operating and or riding in a vehicle.
• Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
