POSITION SUMMARY The Charge Nurse plans, coordinates, provides, and manages nursing care, nursing services and health education to nursing home residents. The Charge Nurse cares for residents under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing. The position requires patience, compassion and a desire to care for the residents in a gentle and empathetic manner.
Requirements
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
o Plans, assigns, and directs work in accordance with the needs of residents and the skill levels of the available staff.
o Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration Resident safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made.
o Receive calls and finds replacement for absent staff.
o Transfer employees among units as needed.
o Prepares performance evaluations with the understanding such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees.
o Make recommendations regarding rewarding, disciplining, or terminating employees under their supervisions.
o Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks.
o Receives and resolves employee complaints.
o Determines rotation of employees within unit.
o Interviews, recommends hires, and trains employees.
o Monitors and corrects job performance.
