Academic Manager, Special Programs

The Academic Manager, Special Programs provides focused oversight in assisting school-based personnel in improving the quality of teaching and learning for students in selected services of Special Education, ESL Program and Gifted Program.

This position offers a base salary around $65,000 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Implements, evaluates, and maintains instructional compliance for Special Education, English Language Learners, and Gifted classroom teachers.
  • Conducts evaluations and observations of classroom teachers per state requirements; Provides assurance that teachers working in Special Programs meet all the standards and expectations outlined in the Teacher Excellence Framework
  • Monitors, interprets, and determines instructional efficacy for schoolwide data reports
  • Creates and provides training of "best practices" for Special Programs instruction in the virtual school setting
  • Coordinates and implements department meetings, coordinates and conducts professional development activities
  • Demonstrates skills in data gathering and analysis, project planning and evaluation
  • Deep understanding of instruction in reading / literacy, math and behavior interventions
  • Ensures conformance of educational programs to state and local school board standards through evaluation, development and coordination activities; As needed, researches and implements nonK12 curriculum resources that meet state standards
  • Serves as liaison between school and other agencies, including participation in agency meetings, hearings and resolutions
  • Works with Testing Coordinator to facilitate appropriate assessments
  • Collaborates with grade level principals on daily duties required to keep the department functioning and compliant
  • Addresses parent and student concerns and issues
  • Collaborates on and creates projects as directed by the Senior Manager, Special Programs
  • Actively participates in all school leadership team meetings assigned
  • Articulates the school's mission and vision with the aim of ensuring all stakeholders have a common understanding and are positioned to work cooperatively to achieve desired results; Utilizes / relies heavily upon communication technologies and practices that most effectively support a predominantly virtual / remote work environment.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time for meetings, professional development, state testing, etc.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Special Programs, this position would directly supervise Fulltime Equivalent (FTE), regular employees and / or contractors. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, approving PTO, approving expenses

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Michigan Administrator License or enrolled in an Administrator program
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field AND
  • A minimum of five years in Special Education AND
  • A minimum of one-year successful virtual teaching experience
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Advanced proficiency with various computer-based software (SIS, Graphing Tools, Data Dashboards, Microsoft)
  • Strong understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), IDEA, and Section 504
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience (special education coordinator, instructional coach, or department chair)
  • Familiarity with Michigan's student count requirements, state assessment accommodations, and reporting systems (e.g., MSDS, Catamaran)
  • Compensation & Benefits : Stride, Inc. considers a person's education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee's salary level. Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position's level and expected contribution, and the employee's benefits elections. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range.
