Senior Food Scientist
Position Summary
This role involves innovating, maintaining, and improving products in the tortilla category, such as frozen dough, dry mix, die-cut, pressed flour, and corn tortillas. Close collaboration with various departments is essential for product development, commercialization, and cost optimization. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a fast-paced environment and exhibits adaptability and independence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Drive the development and launch of new products and line extensions, working closely with internal and external resources.
Translate customer and marketing needs into clear product specifications and processes.
Manage shelf-life testing, product testing, and process monitoring activities.
Document results, update databases, and prepare technical reports for cross-functional teams.
Coordinate sensory evaluations, ensure nutritional information accuracy, and support Sales and Marketing teams.
Provide technical assistance to customers and internal teams, focusing on food science and manufacturing processes.
Optimize costs, improve quality, and drive efficiency initiatives while maintaining brand standards.
Participate in concept development programs and continuous improvement efforts.
Create and maintain internal specifications, customer documentation, and technical data sheets.
Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience :
Bachelors degree in Food Science, Cereal Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field required.
At least 10 years of bakery product development experience, preferably with frozen dough, tortillas, and baked goods exposure.
Successful track record in product development, formulation, and commercialization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to manage multiple projects independently from concept to launch.
Proficiency in regulatory compliance and labeling requirements.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Leadership experience preferred, with the ability to mentor junior team members.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in MS Office applications and familiarity with Genesis and ERP systems.
Collaborative, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and strong time management abilities.
Ability to focus in a dynamic production environment while working safely.
