Job Title : Phlebotomist I - West Columbia

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist I to join our team in West Columbia. The role involves performing blood draws, accurately labeling specimens, centrifuging and storing them according to established procedures. You will update patient information, maintain and decontaminate equipment, and ensure adherence to all safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and explain the process of venipuncture clearly and courteously to patients.
• Collect and store specimens such as blood, urine, and fecal samples following established protocols.
• Use straight or butterfly needles effectively for specimen collection.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label them accurately.
• Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
• Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the scripts to guarantee 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport, maintaining the required temperature and integrity.
• Comprehend and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, and attend annual department trainings.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Work Environment

The position is based at an OBGYN doctor's office in Columbia, SC. You will work independently, drawing anywhere from 25-30 patients daily and performing specimen processing. The working hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm, and Friday from 8 am to 1 pm. The work environment is fast-paced and requires adherence to safety and procedural protocols. Two weeks of initial training are provided, including one week of computer-based training followed by hands-on training.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Columbia, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.50 / hr.
